We elevate each other
Great leaders elevate others.
At PAUSE4Impact we invest in our people. That means reward, regognition, development, flexibility, focus on outcomes not hours, kindness, conduct congruent with values, safe to disagree, safe to be brilliant, safe to “fail”, safe to give credit generously- when a team mate does well, it is seen, it is credited, and it is celebrated as a reflection on them individually and on the group collectively. We see the connections between the achievements, and each other’s contributions. We acknowledge that none of us could do it alone, and it is better because we do it together.
We elevate others, including our “competitors”
At the organisational level we figure elevating others means promoting other professionals & agencies.
So, we dedicate time, and in practical terms this space- that we hope will grow overtime- to others who are doing awesome work.
There is no catch. No strings. No ulterior motive (other than creating a social transformation of course!).
It can’t be bought or bargained for, there is no quid pro quo.
We will simply use publicly available information, e.g. website/mission/bio/etc., share it, fully credit them, and let them know. And of course, if they don’t want to be included, we remove their information immediately. Hopefully, however, it will build a list of others, a community, whose mission, practices or values share some significant alignment.
It will list others who offer complementary but different strengths and services to each other, or who meet any one of the many gaps we can’t fill…
That’s nice- and we don’t underestimate nice (!)- but it’s not really new, bold, or disruptive.
More impactful, we hope, is that we are also promoting awesome folk, who are doing similar, or the exact same range of offers to us.
We want to elevate those, who in the current dominant culture, would be pitted as "competitors". We think this is when it starts to look like an antidote to competitive tendering, competition in the workplace, insecurities that get in the way, fragmented sector knowledge, and silos, all of which are barriers to genuine progress towards social change, towards Equity, for all, forever.
Bad business sense? Maybe. But hear us out, we don’t think so…
It seems to us that competitive tendering, silos, empire building, and individual agendas and ambition, are part of the problem. These practices are undermining the strength of the system- jeopardising genuine transparency, generosity, collaboration, collective knowledge. It is a deficit model, that is getting in the way of good outcomes, and damaging people along the way. An individualist, divide and conquer approach has worked to slow social change. That climate means organisations are in crisis, sectors are in crisis, including those sectors who are “meant to know better”.
So, we’re flipping it! From competition, to cohesion & community...
We practice elevating others, intentionally within our own workplace culture, and we are extending it to others.
The inspiration comes from Quality Leadership practices. It also comes from Community Action, Diversity & Inclusion, Social Justice, Social Change, even various sociological, religious or spiritual adages:
All boats rise in a tide,
It takes a village,
Stronger together,
Safety in numbers,
Do unto others,
Critical mass….
We hope that celebrating and promoting others is a seemingly small, and very practical, tactic we can use to be part of the change we want to see. Here's to cohesion & community! Just one of the ways we are part of creating a wave, so all rise.

“The power to create social change, comes by building a community- a community of people who stand for the same things you do…
then, you must invest in them.
So that together, knowing it wont be easy, you can go out… day, after day… and challenge the injustices wherever you see them, wherever you know they exist”.
-Barak Obama, Emerging Leaders Summit, Chicago 2018.
Our commitment to our workforce.
Your safety, health & wellbeing is real to us.
So, we create a workplace where you will have, everyday: purposeful work, autonomy, recognition.
We will see you- what you contribute, who you are, when you are feeling brilliant, and when you are feeling wobbly. We are listening if you want tell someone, but you do not have to.
In all ways, we consciously aim to make this the best place you have ever worked, the most meaningful work you have ever done.
You will work hard, we all will, and we will love it- most of the time! we will be proud of our work and each other, we will fail, we will celebrate, check our own conduct first, have fun, we will reflect, seek feedback and give it, be kind, bring our best knowing that varies day to day, participate, be brave, and invest in each other.
As PAUSE4Impact changes and grows, this section will too so that it continually reflects the collective values of our organisation, so that we are each invested in them, and part of living them day to day.

Elevating Others
This section is dedicated to others who we think are doing awesome work.
There is no catch. No strings. No ulterior motive (other than creating a social transformation of course!).
It can’t be bought or bargained for, there is no quid pro quo.
It highlights the good works of others, those who offer complementary but different strengths and services to each other, or who meet any one of the many gaps we can’t fill, and it also promotes awesome folk, who are doing similar, or the exact same range of offers to us…
The aim is to build a list of others. The point is to build a community, whose mission, practices or values share some significant alignment with PAUSE4Impact, with each other, because we believe together, as a community, we can more readily inch closer towards the change we want to see. Towards equity for all forever.
The Adapt Group- Sophie Graves Coach | Facilitator | Confidence & Communication | Strategy.
An example of why we think Sophie is awesome, and want to elevate her work:
Post excerpt 2022 “… the hits seem primarily to be coming from toxic work environments, where despite years of experience and expertise, these high-flyers are feeling like failures. Overworked &underpowered… (it) was not a failure on their part, but the environment around them. They turned themselves inside out trying to make it work. It was the lack of appreciation, lack of progression, poor leadership support, politics and power plays instead of meaningful impact and action”. Go to LinkedIn for full post.
HOWInstitute “HOW we do anything means everything”
Not just aligned, but directly impacting the way we work, and how we talk about ourselves- PAUSE wants to elevate the work of the HOWInstitute:
“(HOWInstitute) seeks to build and nurture a culture of moral leadership…The world is being reshaped faster than we have yet been able to reshape our institutions, our leadership and ourselves…. (the Institute:) is committed to building a world that is rooted in deep human values and noble ideals (and) ;) is animated by an in-depth knowledge of moral philosophy, experience applying philosophical reasoning to modern problems and a belief (that) HOW we do what we do, matters more than ever.”
TACSI We’re The Australian Centre for Social Innovation (TACSI), an independent, not-for-profit organisation working across Australia.
An example of why we think TACSI is awesome, and want their work elevated:
“We bring people, communities and organisations together to collectively tackle our toughest social challenges and build the futures we want”. And from their 2021 Whitepaper on R&D…“The first argument is that if we invest in R&D for social problem solving with the same energy and intent that we invest into commercial and scientific R&D, we’ll not only make greater progress on social challenges, but also stand a greater chance of creating a future that reflects what people actually want and need”.
Introduce your workplace to us
You might be awesome, and we just haven’t met your work yet! if you are on board with this concept, you think we may have significant alignment in how we work and why, let us know about you. Next time you check back in, you might see your mission here too!
